We Can Clean Your Business's Carpets and Upholstery

6/28/2022 (Permalink)

Your business or office space is sure to have lots of traffic in and out of it everyday. It can also be one of the first things that customers see when they walk in. You want to make a good impression on them, and having dirty carpet is not going to do that. Clean carpet will make your office stand out above the others, SERVPRO of Tifton is here to help you achieve that.

Preventative Maintenance

Carpets act as a filter, trapping dust, dirt, gases, animal hair, and other soils. All carpet manufacturers agree on actions you can take between carpet cleanings to increase the life span of your carpet.

IICRC states that 79% of soil in carpet is dry soil. Vacuuming is a key component to proper care and maintenance of carpet.

Preventative maintenance actions include:

  • Regular vacuuming
  • Spot removal
  • Pilating the carpet to prevent matting
  • Moving furniture to change traffic patterns
  • Using walk-off mats to limit the amount of soil tracked onto the carpet

Add Carpet Cleaning to your regular maintenance schedule

Carpet that is well cared for and receives regular maintenance will last much longer, saving you money. Customers will feel more comfortable in an office or business that looks well cared for.

Smoke and Soot Damage

6/28/2022 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of Tifton will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Services

Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions.  We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.

It's Hurricane Season, are you prepared?

6/28/2022 (Permalink)

June 1st marks the first day of Hurricane season. Our area of southwest Georgia can get a hurricane at a category three, or the tropical storm impacts. Either way, being prepared is better than not at all. Here are some precautionary steps to take before the storm hits:

Evacuation Plan

Make sure you and your family have a plan in order in case evacuating is the choice or mandatory for your area. If you live by the coast, or in a mobile home, this is most likely the safest option.

Keep Emergency Non-Perishables On Hand

Items like extra batteries for flashlights, candles and matches, three-day supply of water, tools, portable phone charger and food that does not need to be refrigerated or cooked.

Take Photos of Personal Property and Home

This is important if you need to file an insurance claim post-storm. It can make the claims process quicker. Make sure if you need to evacuate, this is one of the things you take with you.

Protect Home and Business

Cut weak branches or trees near building, replace gravel and rocks with mulch or pine straw around landscaping, secure boats and trailers, and install storm shutters around windows and doors.

SERVPRO of Tifton is always prepared for whatever happens. Storm and flood damage can be devastating. Immediate action is needed, and you need the company with storm damage experience. SERVPRO Franchise Professionals have the expertise and the resources to handle any size disaster and can respond immediately to storm and flooding conditions.

Does Your Tift County Home Have A Mold Problem?

6/28/2022 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Fire Prevention In Your Home

4/5/2022 (Permalink)

Overloaded outlet This overloaded outlet is an example of what an outlet looks like if it is a fire hazard. Unplug anything that is not in use to avoid a fire.

Power Hungry

According to a report from the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), home electrical fires claim the lives of 280 Americans each year. During a typical year, home electrical problems account for 26,100 fires and $1 billion in property losses. About half of all residential electrical fires involve electrical wiring. Many electrical fires are caused by overloaded circuits and extension cords. December and January are the peak months for electrical fires, but of course, they can happen at any time during the year. The USDA says fires occur more often in these months due to the increased time spent indoors, which also increases the use of lighting, heating, and appliances.

Many electrical fires can be avoided if basic safety precautions are taken.

Electrical Safety

Review the following tips to reduce your risk of electrical fires.

  • Routinely check electrical appliances and wiring. Frayed wires can cause fires. Replace all worn, old or damaged appliance cords immediately.
  • Replace any electrical tool or appliance if it overheats, shorts out causes even small electrical shocks or gives off smoke or sparks.
  • If an appliance has a three-prong plug, use it only in a three-slot outlet. Never force it to fit into a two-slot outlet or extension cord.
  • Use electrical extension cords wisely; never overload extension cords or wall sockets.
